Advanced study in Latin according to the wishes of the student. This course can be taken several times with different projects. Some of the possible offers are: in-depth study of the work of a particular Latin author, genre, or period; Latin prose composition; study of Latin meter (including a public recitation); performance of a Latin drama in the original language (if a sufficient number of interested students can be found). May be taken twice for credit.

Learning Outcomes

  1. At the end of the course you will have enhanced and made ample use of your availability to read considerable amounts of original language fluently, independently and in a well-informed manner
  2. If your main discipline and research interests are suitable, you will make interdisciplinary connections between the study of Latin and the discipline of your major
  3. You will complete a basic overview of the political and literary history of the period
  4. You will conduct some research on secondary readings and learn how to compile a bibliography for a chosen topic in Classics
  5. You will engage, more in-depth than at the Intermediate level, with methods of Classics, classical philology, historical source criticism, or literary criticism, as they are required for your chosen project. For this purpose you will enlarge the range of methods you are able to use and, by your scholarly secondary readings, begin to join the critical reflection on those methods within the field
  6. You will further refine your grammar knowledge and build a sizable passive vocabulary
