This course prepares students to play the role of journalists covering an international crisis. A weekly class will teach you the multimedia skills and journalist needs (press briefings, reporting, broadcasting and social media) to work in a cooperation with NGO humanitarian aid workers, responsible for providing relief to thousands of civilians caught in the crossfire during the Exercise Coalition: a polyvalent simulation of military intervention organized and operated by the French War College (Ecole de Guerre) with civilian partners.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate the ability to work in a real-time newsroom context as part of a team and under time pressure.
Show the ability to contribute to the news output of a media team via strong skills in one or more media (Text, photo, video, social media) or newsroom functions (chief editor, newsroom manager).
Demonstrate advanced skills in interviewing, defining news and feature angles and an understanding of a fictional, but realistic, news scenario.
