The History Workshop is a course in the historian's craft that will give students an opportunity to learn about the discipline of history. Students learn how to pose researchable questions(problematiques), to gather evidence, and to present their findings before an audience of their peers in a seminar setting. May be taken twice for credit.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to explain and critique the historical schools of thought that have shaped the understanding of their fields of study. They will also be able to: a. Understand how race, gender, class, ethnicity, and religion shape historical narratives. b. Engage with how history shapes thought, policy, and actions that pervade the world around them.
  2. Surveying classic and recent works in the historical literature, students will be introduced to different historical methodologies and historiographical approaches.
  3. We will also be visiting archives and learn how to approach historical documents.
  4. Students will be able to engage in the writing practices and culture of their chosen major, adding to the skills acquired in the Research, Interpretation, and Writing classes to develop a personal, authentic disciplinary voice (CCR)
