ELEMENTARY LATIN II (LT1002)

This course continues Elementary Latin I. At the end of the course you will have an overview of Latin grammar and a basic passive vocabulary of c. 2000 words. You will learn how to write simple Latin texts yourself and start to read excerpts of original literature. Specialization on certain classes of texts, e.g., Latin inscriptions, is possible.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will increase their passive vocabulary to two-thousand Latin words and understand the basics of Latin word building as well as the etymology of Latinate words in English and other modern languages they know.
  2. Students will have acquired a basic understanding of most of Latin morphology and syntax and thus be ready for transitioning quickly to original readings at the next level.
  3. Students will be able to read Latin texts at the level of this course and translate them fluently and accurately into English.
