Discusses propositional logic, proofs and mathematical induction, matrices of relations and digraphs, set theory and number bases, combinatorial analysis, graph theory and Boolean algebra.The prerequisite for this course is MA1010 or above or CS 1040.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Be able to use directed graphs and matrices to represent relations and identify their nature, and to apply algorithms to solve graph theory problems.
  2. Be able to write and read mathematical proofs of different types.
  3. Know how to use combinatorics in understanding discrete structures.
  4. Know the principles of mathematical logic and be able to use logic to recognise valid reasoning and conclusions.
  5. Students will be able to write and publish digitally and analyze and produce audiovisual content in order to communicate through a variety of digital media. (CCD LO1) 
  6. Students will be able to formulate appropriate problems in a way that allows a computer to help solve them; students will have familiarity with automating these solutions through the implementation of algorithms, code or programmes. (CCD LO4)
