This course discusses the intellectual foundations of contemporary psychology. Students learn about the concepts, theories and experiments basic to an understanding of the discipline, including classic thought and recent advances in psychology such as psychoanalysis, learning theory,biological mechanisms, developmental, social, cognitive, personality and abnormal psychology.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Awaken students’ intellectual curiosity about how psychological approaches can help to better understand persons and real world social problems.
  2. Students will improve their ability to write clear and effective arguments.
  3. Students will learn how psychologists study human beings, begin to understand the limits of various methods of investigation and to question how knowledge is constructed.
  4. Students will understand and be able to apply a broad range of psychological theories.
