If needed, the French placement test can be taken online prior to arrival. If entering freshmen cannot be pre-placed into the appropriate English and Math course level, with the help of SAT or ACT scores, they will be required to take placement tests in English and Mathematics during Orientation. Visiting students take the French placement test only if they intend to register for a French course, and the Mathematics placement test only if they plan to register for classes in Mathematics. All transfer students, except those who have already fulfilled the EN requirement and are thus transferring with equivalencies of EN1010 and EN2020, must take the English placement exam during Orientation to confirm that they have attained a level of English writing proficiency sufficient for upper-level coursework at AUP. Transfer students with SAT or ACT scores but without equivalencies of EN1010 or EN2020 will be required to take the placement exam. They are only required to take the Mathematics placement test if this requirement has not been fulfilled by a course transferred in from their prior institution. Placement test results do not appear on any official record.
